Creative movement and dance is a way for children & adults to develop their physical, emotional, and psychological selves. It allows participants to explore and express emotions, ideas, images, and bodily sensations through the use of movement. When doing creative dance, all the senses are engaged.
In early childhood, creative movement encourages a child's primary need to express themselves through movement. Creativity and imagination are the only primary goals that are set when teaching a creative movement class. By their very nature, both children and adults are highly imaginative and creative-creative movement allows this creative energy full expression!

Considerations:
Stability, balance, gross/fine motor skills are just a few skills that are further developed when children are engaged in creative dance. Both cognitive and kinesthetic learning are also developed when language is linked with movement-stimulating both hemispheres of the brain.
Dance aesthetics, musicality, rhythm, language development, cooperation, dramatic play and the use of props are all part of the creative movement experience.
Darby's unique creative movement classes combine the use of props such as scarves, rhythm sticks, balloons, drums, rattles, balls, and costume. She also utilizes storytelling, mime, singing games, and circle dances. Images, sounds, words, and shapes are also sources of creative exploration. These classes are for all ages and abilities - special needs students can benefit greatly!
